Remember These, I Certainly Do
A random article I found on Game Informer, an amusing blast from the past. Its about memorable ads for video games and their consoles. I hardly remember most of them, but I am fairly sure a was a youngin’ when some of them aired.
I do remember a few though. Like the Supersmash Brothers 64 “So Happy Together” ad. So cute. I also remember the Crash Bandicoot Racing ad. And that’s it. I thought the article would go on longer, but ‘naw.
Anyway, I ads (American, mind you) that stick out in my mind are the:
- Final Fantasy IX
- Chrono Cross
- Kingdom Hearts
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Wii
- Final Fantasy III
And, uh, that’s it. I know, pretty shallow list with the graphics and the music. But that’s generally the first two things I go for in a video game ad. The art asthetic and the music playing. Its really the only thing I’ll remember about the commercials after a while.
I also vaguely remember an ad for a two games, same series (perhaps Godfather or Grand Theft Auto), some years ago, that featured opera music playing through out it. It showed scenes of car chases and shoot outs, and I thought that was a pretty cool contrast.
But that’s just my opinion.
