A Home Console From Square-Enix? Rumor Alert!

I am Both Giddy With Excitement and Dismayed

So, Square-Enix, the publishing giant behind the Final Fantasy, (branch member of the FF series) Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Kingdom Hearts, and the Dragon Quest series…would like to make their own video game console? Huh? What!

Do they really need to say or do anything like this? I mean really! Strike that.

What I meant to type was…

In the gossip column for Game Informer, Loose Talk, they had this to say:

After stating how the company left its mark in gaming, it said in Nikkei Online, Yoichi Wada (company president) talked about chaging the company’s strategy. This strategy is dependent on perpetual software release (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy).

And that citing the success of the I-pod, Wada said, “to create a new enviroment based on hardware is completely valid.”

Continuing, Wada also said, “In our talks with Taito, ideas for an actual physical product have come up. In any case, we will be releasing some ‘thing’. Its interesting in that its not the sort of thing you expect from Square-Enix.”

Maybe that’s why they want a dead heat in the console wars.

Note that Nikkei is the Japanese Market, like the New York Stock Exchange (in case you’re wondering).

[channeling Bloo] Suspicious… Especially when you factor in (a possible) Kingdom Hearts III and no announced console for it.

This may simply be a case of hype. Could this “console” merely be an arcade system?

I’ve been told that this “console” could simply be an arcade system that SE already had plans for. But I haven’t found anything about an arcade system from SE.
